Thick fog prevented my line of vision from seeing the end of the garden this morning. The sight reminded me to mark the day on the calendar. Not today, but 90 days hence. Why three months out? Well, the old timers will tell you that a foggy day will result in us being blessed (or not) with some sort of precipitation in 90 days. I don’t count the exact days as they did; instead, I count out three months and then mark the same day number.
It has been interesting over the years to see how accurate this exercise is. My calculations have been within +/- one or two days that some sort of wet stuff (rain or snow) arrives. Today’s estimate takes me to the end of July.
Sometimes, the old ways work and sometimes they don’t. Either way, have some fun and the next time you have fog in your area, count out three months on the calendar and make a note. If the results hold true to what the old timer’s say, you may just have the tool to start planning your future outdoor activities without the weather man!
