This recipe is so easy to make; and, it always makes me smile. It was one of the first cakes that our oldest daughter made – age 7 or 8 and with the help of a friend. The words “do-not mix with an electric mixer” should tell you the story.
1 ½ cups of flour
1 tsp. soda
½ tsp. salt
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
4 scant Tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
5 Tbsp. oil
1 Tbsp. vinegar
1 cup water
Sift all of the dry ingredients together in a 9 x 13 baking pan. Level off and make three holes equal distance apart. Set aside.
Mix together vanilla, oil and vinegar. Pour into the three holes in the dry ingredients.
Pour the water over all of the ingredients. Using a fork or spoon mix well. Do not use an electric mixer!
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

– Ice with any flavor of icing or leave it plain.
– It makes a yummy base for an ice cream treat.
– Serve with any one of or all – fresh sliced fruit, chocolate sauce (or any flavor), ice cream, and a dollop of whipped cream and a cherry on top.
