Lavender is a versatile plant to make many crafts from. Spiced Amour

This delicate pomander can be worn or placed in a small container to sit on a heat register. The heat from your body or the warmth from the register will make their scent even stronger. To make these little adornments follow these easy instructions.

Materials - one pound of sweet scented rose petals - choose from a mixture of colors, all one color or a variance of different shades of one color, one teaspoon of finely ground cinnamon and one teaspoon of finely ground cloves. A stainless steel or enamel saucpan, darning needle, tin foil or plastic wrap and a baking rack used for cooling.

Method: Place petals only in a pan. Add water to barely cover petals. Heat on the lowest possible setting - do not let this mixture come to a boil. Heat for one hour. Remove from heat and leave uncovered for 24 hours. You will repeat this process (do not add more water) three more times. Before heating the fourth time, add spices. At completion of the fourth heating, you should have a smooth paste. Cool mixture slightly for ease of handling. While still warm, wet your hands very lightly with "rose water". Make small balls about the size of a dime. To make a bracelet or other string jewelery, put a hole completely through each one with a darning needle. If your choice is to be an air freshener, you may want to make the balls smaller so they will dry easier as there will be a hole is not needed. Cover the baking rack with tinfoil or plastic wrap and place balls on to dry. Dry them in a sunny room but out of direct sunlight until they are hard. Store in an air-tight jar until needed.

SUGGESTED USES: Using a safety pin (size is up to you), place balls on and wear as a broach or hat broach. A china saucer that has had the cup broken is a nice home for the balls when you place them on the heat register. String and wear as a bracelet or necklace.

NOTE: Check with your local florist. They will quite often have a supply of petals that have fallen from the roses they receive
